Talkeetna Council discusses Park and crime

by Sue Deyoe ~ July 10th, 2009

The Talkeetna Community Council is researching the idea of working with Crimestoppers or another entity to provide rewards for information leading to arrests of individuals involved in thefts and break-ins in Talkeetna.

The Board met on Monday night at their regularly scheduled monthly meeting to discuss several topics.  Board member Billy Fitzgerald said he had been approached by a community member that had taken initiative to ask local businesses if they might contribute a nominal amount of money to add to a coffer that would pay for rewards leading to possible arrests.

Talkeetna has suffered a rash of burglaries targeting businesses over the past several months.  Troopers are continuing to investigate all break-ins.

Further discussion on the topic will be on the August agenda.

The Community Council board is also looking into the possibility of development of guidelines on usage of the Talkeetna Village Park.  To date, according to long time board member, Billy Fitzgerald, there have never been any formal guidelines on what groups are able to use the Village Park.  The issue is somewhat complex considering the Mat Su Borough, the Chamber of Commerce, MEA and the Railroad are all involved in one form or another in operation and ownership of the Park.

The topic will be on next month’s agenda
