Planning for Petersville Road was put on the shelf after the South Denali Visitor Center site moved to the Parks Highway in 2006. Now, DOT is looking at the possibilities of repaving a portion of the Road and examining a bike and pedestrian pathway for the first few miles of the road. The Talkeetna Historical Society Board of Directors announced at noon today their decision to cancel Moose Dropping Festival. Listen for the full story on the decision tonight at 6 pm.
The Earthquake Information Center reported an earthquake this morning at 10:19. The quake had a preliminary magnitude of 5.0 and has been changed to 4.97. It was located at a depth of 38 miles.
The quake was centered 31 miles west of Anchorage, 44 miles southwest of Willow and 52 miles southeast of Skwentna. The earthquake center reports the event was widely felt throughout south and south central, including Soldotna, Wasilla, Anchorage, Palmer and Talkeetna. No reports of damage have been received.
Alaska State Troopers are investigating the theft of several vehicles and other items from a Division of Forestry office in Palmer. (more…)
