The Mat Su Teachers of Excellence for 2010 were honored in Wasilla last Thursday evening.
British Petroleum recognizes teachers from around Alaska each year. Each teacher receives a five hundred dollar gift card and an award certificate.
This year’s Mat Su Borough teachers are Skip Davenport of Willow Elementary, Lynda Eller of Shaw Elementary, Steven Hall of Houston High, Kathleen Jones of Sherrod Elementary, Sonja Mackey of Shaw Elementary, Matthew Swalling of Palmer Junior Middle School and Kai West of Shaw Elementary.
Of those seven teachers, Matthew Swalling of Palmer was chosen as the Teacher of the Year.
In the past, BP has honored several Upper Valley teachers. No Talkeetna or Trapper Creek teachers made the final list this year.
More than 500 nominations were received from the Kenai Pennisula, Mat Su Borough, Fairbanks and Anchorage
