Denali Report #8- Getting stuck at basecamp

The month of June was mostly poor weather at Denali’s basecamp.  A number of no-fly days created a backlog of climbers trying to get off the mountain and a waiting list in Talkeetna for those trying to get up to basecamp.Producer Sue Deyoe speaks with climbing ranger Chris Erickson about weather.

Seven youth are battling invasive species this summer as part of their mission working for the Youth Conservation Corps. The Upper Susitna Soil and Water Conservation District runs the program and puts the fight against noxious plants high on the do-to list.

Talkeetna resident organizing worldwide conference on human waste in wilderness

An unusual worldwide conference is in the planning for the end of July in Golden, Colorado.  Talkeetna resident and Denali climbing ranger Roger Robinson has been organizing the conference on human waste issues in remote areas for over 3 years.  The conference, Exit Strategies: Managing Human Waste in the Wild, will bring together interpreters, managers and scientists from 11 different countries and the U.S.
