A NEW NAME— Congress passed legislation to rename South Hunter peak to Stevens Peak in honor of the late Senator Ted Stevens. Photo by Diana Haecker


WASHINGTON D.C. — The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill today  that honors the late Senator Ted Stevens by naming a peak on Mount Hunter and part of an ice field in Alaska after him. (more…)

The cross country running season is nearing its grand finale with the upcoming State finals in Anchorage, where athletes from statewide school districts duke out who’s the best runner. From Su Valley High, the girls team qualified to compete. Diana Haecker reports from last weekend’s Region 2 qualifier race held at Su Valley High School.

Storm caused widespread damages

BLOWN OVER— Wind gusts on Friday were strong enough to topple a 9-foot plywood moose decoration in downtown Talkeetna. Signs of businesses, the wooden VFW post sign and political campaign signs were also damaged during the storm.  Photo by Diana Haecker

Last weekend’s wind storm wreaked havoc in the valley and residents are starting the clean up while state and borough officials as well as phone and utility companies are assessing the damages.
