Alaska State Troopers responded to reports of a gunshot at 9:15 Friday evening at the Latitude 62 in Talkeetna.

Measure 1 asks to increase size of state legislature

Voters will decide on Tuesday if the state legislature should be increased by six new legislative districts. Ballot Measure 1 was introduced by the state legislature as a means to keep balanced representation in both urban and rural districts.

Close friends are continuing to assist Michelle O’Neil Puryear to bring her husband back to the U.S.  Joe Puryear died tragically on Labuche Kang in Tibet on Tuesday. He was 37 years old.  Puryear’s climbing blog is posting information about the retrieval effort and how friends can contribute.  Readers can go to an article here in the Seattle Times for a tribute to Puryear and for more information on the climb.

(aired on APRN 10/20 and KTNA 10/28) If it passes, Proposition B would provide a lot of work for next years construction season.  $20 million for a pool at Mount Edgecumbe in Sitka,  $18 million for the state museum, library and archive in Juneau, $20 million for a Fish and Game for a research facility on Near Island, and a little more than three million dollars for a new vocational education facility in Klawock.
