Feds ok building of Knik Arm toll bridge

by Diana Haecker ~ December 17th, 2010

The proposed Knik Arm bridge is one step closer to become reality as the Federal Highway administration gave the green light for the project. Knik Arm Bridge and Toll Authority – KABATA for short – announced that the approval by the federal agency now allows them to move forward with permitting, right-of-way acquisitions, final design and the financing and construction of the bridge.

The toll bridge would span 2.7 miles across Knik Arm from Anchorage to Point Mackenzie.

The project was spurred by economic considerations and to build a link between the Anchorage port and Port Mackenzie. The project is also to accommodate population growth in Anchorage and the Mat-Su Borough with more transportation infrastructure.
