Governor proposes to fund Susitna Dam

Governor Sean Parnell’s proposed budget includes funding projects and initiatives that are likely to impact the upper Susitna valley. The governor’s budget plan totals $11.1 billion.Parnell proposed to fund the Susitna Hydro project with $65.7 million for planning, design and permitting the proposed dam at the Lower Watana site.
The governor’s budget includes $25 million for the renewable energy grant fund and $25 million for weatherization programs.
While Parnell continues to sound his battle cry against domestic violence and sexual assault, he proposed only $ 7.4 million for prevention programs.
The governor’s proposal also included $16 million to boost Alaska’s tourism marketing.
The governor’s budget proposes to pay out a statewide total of $60 million for community revenue share funds, which would result in yet another round of roughly $20,000 dollars for the Talkeetna, Sunshine, Trapper Creek and Chase community council areas.
