Borough has long agenda for Tuesday

The Mat Su Borough has a number of upper valley-related ordinances on their agenda for Tuesday’s regular meeting of the Mat Su Borough Assembly.

First on the agenda is money that will go to the Chase Trail Service Area to fund a trail upgrade project.  All road service areas in the borough get these funds and Chase  happens to be next on the list.   If the vote is yes, they receive $16,000  for their service area.

Another  ordinance, which will fund continuing education grants, is on the agenda for approval. Talkeetna, Willow, Sutton and Big Lake are part of the scope of work for the Alaska state department of education’s continuing education grants.

Talkeetna’s sewer and water rate increase is ordinance number 11 dash 078 (11-078).  There is currently a petition effort in Talkeetna to delay a decision on this ordinance until there is a better grasp on future finances of the sewer and water system.

There is also an ordinance on the agenda that will mean an advisory question on this falls ballot. The Assembly wants to ask qualified non area wide voters at the October borough election if they support an amendment to change borough code to allow a setback of towers so the distance equals the height of the tower from all property lines and any public right of way.  Some tower planning group members have vocally opposed the ordinance saying that the planning commission themselves can make the decision.

16 new ordinances will be introduced at the July 19th meeting that will be up for discussion in August.
