The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation is looking at a change to the regulations covering pesticide use on State lands. The DEC has given the public until August to submit feedback on a rule change that could speed up pesticide spraying programs by doing away with public review and input

This has broad, disturbing and very unhealthy implications. Talkeetna Community Council will be addressing this on July 2nd.

The public should email rebecca [dot] colvin [at] alaska [dot] gov to request a 60 day extension of the public comment period. There are alot of issues at stake here. Perhaps the problem is that there is only one DEC staff person handling the pesticide permits and the solution is adding more staff.
