North Valley legislative delegation part of Republican shift

by admin default ~ November 7th, 2012

In Tuesday’s general election, a republican majority was strengthened in the Alaska State house, and a new republican majority was established in the Senate. Representatives for the northern Susitna Valley for both house and senate ran unopposed after winning their primary races.

Mike Dunleavy won his uncontested bid for the Alaska State Senate seat D with 94 percent of the vote. Dunleavy received 9,016 votes on Tuesday, with 536 write-in votes cast.

Wes Keller Also won his uncontested race with 97 percent of the vote, gathering 4173 votes on Tuesday, with 173 write-in ballots.

The strengthened republican majority in the House, and a Republican shift in the senate could mean swifter passage of budget agendas.  Representative Keller says the work of organizing ahead of january’s legislative session has already begun

Keller says he’s concerned about the State’s budgetary outlook, and that will continue to be a priority for the house, and now witht he support of the Senate he expects the legislature will be able to reach an agreement that was elusive in the last session.
