Troopers Search for Shooter in Big Lake

by Phillip Manning ~ June 25th, 2013

On Tuesday morning, Alaska State Troopers attempted to contact a driver on Big Lake Road in Big Lake.  The vehicle fled, and the Trooper pursued for ten minutes before the driver exited and allegedly fired at him. The suspect then fled on foot.  The Trooper was not injured and called for back-up The Troopers’ Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) was activated with full tactical equipment and began searching for the suspect.  The SERT was called off just after 3:00 pm, but Troopers say the investigation is ongoing.  The Department of Public Safety is advising local residents to remain cautious.

Megan Peters, Public Information Officer for the Alaska State Troopers, says that drivers are strongly encouraged not to pick up hitchhikers, and residents are encouraged not to answer the door for anyone except law enforcement officers or people they know personally.

The suspect is described as a male, approximately five feet, seven inches tall with short hair, and possibly of Asian ethnicity.  The Troopers ask that residents contact them if they see anything suspicious, and call 911 in case of an emergency.
