KTNA anniversary audio-Dead bears and birch bark weaving

by Deborah Brocke ~ July 19th, 2013

KTNA is celebrating 20 years of broadcasting to the Upper Susitna Valley with audio pieces that we aired during the past two decades.

This week, a couple of  stories from from our news department. The first is from July of 2009, a summer when Talkeetna area residents shot a high number of bears in defense of life and property. KTNA news producer Sue Deyoe had this report:

And, a story from July 2010, when some local residents took a course in birch bark weaving from a visiting silviculturalist.

Three years later, the craft of birch bark weaving has more followers in the area, and rumor has it that Mr. Zasada will be visiting again soon. Lots more birch-related events this coming weekend at Talkeetna’s first-ever Birch Festival.
