Thanks to Melis Coady for letting us explain why Alaskans’ Freedom to Travel opposes TSA’s wasteful, ineffective, unsanitary and unreasonably intrusive searches. Please don’t be fooled by the $8 billion/year agency’s overpaid, unnecessary spokesperson, who claims in this story that it is harder for TSA to ransack your personal belongings than it is for you to stand by, helplessly, and submit to whatever they dream up. The worst thing about TSA is that its search practices and criteria are arbitrary, and based on secret criteria which we mere citizens are not privileged to know, and that is no doubt unconstitutional. The “PreCheck” and “behavior detection” scams are nothing more than selection of citizens for unequal treatment based on whatever personal prejudices the screener (who is not even required to have a high school degree) on duty that day happens to have. It doesn’t get any more un-American than TSA: Totalitarian State of America.
