aired tues – May 31^st is National Dam Safety Awareness Day.  It marks the 122th anniversary of the 1889 South Fork Dam failure in Pennsylvania, known as the worst dam disaster in US history.  The Teton Dam failed on June 5^th in 1976 and caused over 2 billion dollars in damages and killed 11 people.  FEMA is the promoter of the National Dam Safety Awareness Day. The state of Alaska is jumping on board National Trails Day.  Since 1993, the first weekend in June is known as National Trails Day.  Events usually include hikes, new trail dedications, educational events, and trail maintenance. (more…)

Talkeetna resident Wayne Richardson died on October 12, 2010.  The information below is from his family.  There is a link to a beautiful video tribute (it takes a bit to load and about 10 minutes to watch):

Wayne Ralph Richardson was born November 13, 1951 to Ralph and Irene (Domine) Richardson in Marshall, MN. Not sure if he would even survive, Wayne was baptized three days later while still in the hospital. (more…)
