KTNA news producer Lorien Nettleton talks with NSI executive director Joe Page, and Alaska Folk School director Diane Ziegner about NSI’s history, and its programs, the Alaska  Folk School, Build-A-Plane, the CEAL Academy, and Classroom with a View. We hear about NSI’s plan for a permanent home, some past and future folk school classes, and…the first annual Cardboard Boat Regatta next month! The hour-long program aired live from the KTNA studio.

Steven Hawley’s book “Recovering a Lost River” chronicles the impact of damming rivers in the Pacific Northwest. In this conversation, Hawley talked about many of the historical, and potential, ramifications of dam building on salmon and communities. Lorien Nettleton hosted this program, live from the KTNA studio. The program is an hour.

Cici Schoenberger, Behavioral Health Provider at Sunshine Community Health Center, Janice Stormer, Court Advocate for Alaska Family Services, and Ashley Peltier, Children’s Outreach Advocate for Alaska Family Services, join host Charlie Loeb for a studio discussion about domestic violence. They talk about the definition of domestic abuse / violence, who it affects, who is likely to become a victim or abuser, the behavior of the abused and the abuser, eighteen warning signs of abuse, how to help someone you believe is in an abusive relationship, some of the difficulties that might arise when the court system is involved. The program is almost an hour.

Talkeetna librarian Ann Yadon, and Friends of the Talkeetna Library member Peg Foster revisit the institution’s history, talk about how the library is used today, and talk about what library users hope for in the coming years. The discussion focuses on how the library building seems no longer adequate for its many uses, the possibility of building a new facility in the next few years, and how that facility could be funded.
