In series of video voter guides, Ann Secrest, AARP Alaska’s director of communication, sat down with candidates running for Congress and Alaska’s two top offices to get their views on a variety of topics. Click here to go to their posted information.

The primaries on Tuesday will decide which of the two Republican candidates will represent District 15 in the State Legislature next year. There are no Democratic challengers running for office. Diana Haecker  speaks to Mark Neuman about his motivation to run again.

  The Talkeetna Community Council has three new Directors for their Board. Meghaan    Vaughan, the youngest director, took the most votes with 135 of 187 total voters casting  their ballot for her. (more…)

The final vote tallies of the evening in the Borough election show Vern Halter over Doyle Holmes in a close election.  Halter’s 1049 votes to Holmes’ 864 may change after all the absentee ballots are counted.  Borough officials say that could be 2 weeks from now.

Other results:  The sales tax ordinance was soundly defeated.  The school bond issue failed in a close vote. Talis Colberg is the new (presiding) Borough mayor; Ron Arvin beat out Michelle Church in Asembly seat 3 race, Jim Colver took Borough seat 6 in a race so close that it is possible it could go to Jim Turner depending on absentee votes.

New School Board members are Erik Cordero, Sarah Welton, Mike Dunleavy

There was a 21.7% voter turnout overall for the election.

The new Talkeetna Community Council Board members are: Meghaan Vaughan, Cary Birdsall and Howard Carbone.  There were several write in votes.  Six members of the community acted as officials in the vote tallying Tuesday night.  The next community council meeting is November 2nd.

Borough election preliminary results are:  Mayor – Talis Colberg; Sales Tax ordinance – failed; school bond issue – failed;  However these are preliminary.  Currently waiting on District 7 results and confirmation on all vote tallies.
