Halter takes District 7

The final vote tallies of the evening in the Borough election show Vern Halter over Doyle Holmes in a close election.  Halter’s 1049 votes to Holmes’ 864 may change after all the absentee ballots are counted.  Borough officials say that could be 2 weeks from now.

Other results:  The sales tax ordinance was soundly defeated.  The school bond issue failed in a close vote. Talis Colberg is the new (presiding) Borough mayor; Ron Arvin beat out Michelle Church in Asembly seat 3 race, Jim Colver took Borough seat 6 in a race so close that it is possible it could go to Jim Turner depending on absentee votes.

New School Board members are Erik Cordero, Sarah Welton, Mike Dunleavy

There was a 21.7% voter turnout overall for the election.

Talkeetna Community Council election results

The new Talkeetna Community Council Board members are: Meghaan Vaughan, Cary Birdsall and Howard Carbone.  There were several write in votes.  Six members of the community acted as officials in the vote tallying Tuesday night.  The next community council meeting is November 2nd.

Borough election preliminary results are:  Mayor – Talis Colberg; Sales Tax ordinance – failed; school bond issue – failed;  However these are preliminary.  Currently waiting on District 7 results and confirmation on all vote tallies.

The filing period for candidates in the October election is fast coming to a close.  The deadline for the filing period is tomorrow  at 5 p.m.
