Yukon case could set precedent for future federal cases

A trial in federal court in Fairbanks last week concerning an arrest in Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve a may set a precedent for other national park and preserve cases in Alaska.

71 year old Jim Wilde, his wife and a friend, were power-boating up the Yukon River from Circle last September on a moose hunting trip.  They were approached by National Park Service rangers in another boat.  The rangers said they wanted to conduct a routine boat safety check. (more…)

Clark trial delayed

The trial of Sam Clark of Talkeetna has been delayed again and is currently scheduled for April 18th.

He is accused of killing Talkeetna resident Dirk Fast on October 29th last year in an incident near downtown Talkeetna.  Clark is still incarcerated at the Mat-su PreTrial facility.  He is being held on $500,000 bail with a third party custodian requirement.

Alaska State Troopers and the Fugitive Task Force apprehended two people staying in a cabin off the Talkeetna River on Thursday.

Troopers say they had been investigating the location of Nathan Dalton, 35, from Indiana and Katherine Cook, 25 also of Indiana, for several months after receiving information that Dalton had a warrant from Indiana for murder and failure to appear in court.(*** this is incorrect – the warrant was for probation violation – read further for the correction) (more…)

Myers pleads guilty

Last week, Tim Myers,45, of Talkeetna appeared in Palmer court to plead guilty to misdemeanor charges.

On October 31 of last year, Myers was arrested by Alaska State Troopers after a 911 call was received.  He was accused of verbally and physically assaulting his girlfriend at the time as well as damaging property. (more…)

Drunk driver hits espresso stand

A Trapper Creek woman was arrested Tuesday for leaving an accident scene without reporting it, drunk driving and driving with a revoked license. Kerry Lee Cook, age 42, reportedly struck the Alaska Dream Espresso stand at Willow Fishhook Road and left the scene. Troopers were notified of the incident and caught Cook at mile 49 of the Parks Highway. (more…)

Palmer dispatcher made mistake in emergency response to murder scene

An internal Mat-Su Borough emergency services investigation concluded that a Palmer-based dispatcher pointed the Talkeetna emergency service’s in the wrong direction as they were trying to respond to the murder scene of Dirk Fast at the Latitude.
