Every 10 years, in conjunction with the census, a redistricting board is appointed and begins the task of re-examining legislative districts. The Redistricting Board has been busy holding community meetings and public testimony around the state. Monday afternoon, residents of the lower valley gathered in Palmer to let the Board know how they felt about proposed redistricting plans

Yesterday , the Senate Finance Committee spent a short 3 minutes in session before approving and forwarding the Susitna Hydro electric project bill to the Senate floor. The Senate version of the bill passed unanimously.

The House unanimously passed the bill today.  The bill now goes to the Governor for his signature.

The Alaska redistricting board is busy posting their proposed maps and scheduling community meetings around the state.  By following the state Constitution, the timeline is fast.  The Board has until May 6^th to hold community meetings.  A statewide teleconference will be held that day and the Board then holds public work sessions starting May 16^th to draft the final plan for adoption by June 13^th. Lawmakers only 4 days left to pass any legislation, including the capital budget.

TALKEETNA – The Mat Su Borough Assembly recently approved Jane Steere to be seated on the Talkeetna Sewer and Water Board.

The local utility board is an advisory board to the Borough’s Public Works. (more…)

The Mat Su Borough Assembly did a complete reversal on a resolution Tuesday evening dealing with the Susitna Dam.

At the March 15th meeting, a resolution was introduced by Ron Arvin that would whole heartedly supported the Susitna Dam. The resolution was unanimously tabled indefinitely after very little discussion. (more…)

The Talkeetna Community Council is busy writing letters this week.  The Council board of directors, after hearing from meeting attendees Monday evening, voted to send a letter to legislators and the governor concerning the Susitna Dam and the bills currently under consideration in Juneau. (more…)

The Surface Transportation Board has released its final Environmental Impact Statement for Port MacKenzie rail spur and is recommending the MacCentral and Houston-South routes for the spur extension. (more…)

The 2010 Census Data was released yesterday and shows that the Mat Su Borough grew 50 percent in the past 10 years.  It is the fastest growing borough in the state according to the records.  The next fastest area was the North Star Borough with a 12 percent increase. (more…)
