The National High Altitude Research Administration released a forecast for solar activity this morning at 4am Alaska time. The forecast was prompted by higher than usual solar activity over the past two months, and the expectation that this activity will continue for several more months. Meg Farmer, NHARA’s Assistant to the Director, added that the press release was expedited due to current conditions. (more…)

Talkeetna council approves revenue share projects

The Talkeetna Community Council Board of Directors has committed to holding effective, short meetings, lasting no more than 2 hours.

The council met Monday night for the regular monthly meeting.  Council chair, Sharon Montagnino reported on a work session the Board had in December and said they would do everything in their power to hold brief meetings, but being effective and accomplishing a lot at the same time. (more…)

Governor Parnell releases his proposed 2012 budget

Governor Parnell has announced his budget plan for Fiscal Year 2012. The operating and capital budgets total $11.1 billion, with $5.45 billion in state general funds. State agency operating growth has been limited to 1.9 percent.  The budget includes $65.7 million for the Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) to conduct planning, design, and permitting for the Susitna Hydroelectric Project, which is estimated to meet half of the Railbelt’s electricity demand. Talkeetna Council receives 8 applications for revenue sharing

The Talkeetna Community Council held a very short meeting Monday evening.  All business was completed within an hour and the meeting adjourned at 8 pm.

The only committee report came from revenue sharing committee chair Howard Carbone.  He reported that 8 applications have been received for the revenue sharing grant of $22,200. (more…)
