The Alaska Energy Authority released a preliminary decision last week and recommended to pursue a Susitna hydro electric project at the Lower Watana site. The 51-page preliminary decision document is available for review by clicking here.  AEA acting director Michael Harper encouraged the public to  comment on the decision document and announced upcoming workshops to be held in February. Alaska DOT is asking for public comment on 15 different passing lane areas on the Parks Highway from milepost 163 to milepost 298.  Comments are due December 1st.

The National Park Service has opened a public comment period to examine the possibility of raising fees that mountaineers pay to climb Mt McKinley and Mt. Foraker.  Despite an increase in the special use fee in 2005, the current revenue only covers 17% of the cost of the program overall.  Park officials are asking climbers and others nationwide to weigh in hopes of coming up with a solution.

The Mat-Su Borough’s draft Natural Resource Management Units plan is still out for public comment. A public hearing is scheduled for September 21^st at the regularly scheduled Borough Assembly meeting. (more…)
