Tonight, Talkeetna hockey fans will have the last chance to see the Susitna Valley Rams hockey team play on their home ice as the 2011 hockey season winds down. Most of the hockey team will be graduating this coming spring.
Coach Jack MacDonald said that the majority of his players, including his goalie, are seniors and that after their graduation, there will only be four players left. That’s not enough for a competitive varsity team.
MacDonald said there is a big generation gap between his current team and upcoming players who are not even in high school yet.
He said he’s sad to see this era come to an end as he has coached the players on the varsity team for eight years. After this season, (more…)
Talkeetna ice hockey coach Jack Macdonald was in for a pleasant surprise at last Friday’s first home game when it was announced that the ice rink is going to be named after him and called the “Jack P. The Susitna Valley basketball teams traveled to Healy on Friday morning to participate in the Tri-Valley Invitational.
The weekend began inauspiciously with the teams’ bus arriving at Susitna Valley High School late, and delivering the teams to Tri-Valley high school just minutes before the Lady Rams’ first game. Fifteen minutes later, the girls were dressed, warmed up and… (more…)
