In 2009, Trapper Creek resident Rodney Humphrey was accused of trying to kill a man from Texas when he ran over him with his pickup truck at the festival. The man was taken to the hospital with severe injuries. The attempted murder charge ended in a mistrial last year. The jury DID agree on a driving without a license charge as well as leaving the scene of an accident. Humphrey has since struck a plea deal for the attempted murder charge. Sentencing is scheduled for the end of June.

This year the events are advertised for May 27 through the 29th and August 19th to 21st on Boot Rosseau’s private property. Neither festival has a permit yet. The festival promotion site says they are only selling 500 tickets. The injunction says if attendance at the festival surpasses 500 people this year, the Borough could ask State Troopers to direct people away from the event or assist with enforcing the court order.

Superior Court Judge Kari Kristianson granted the preliminary injunction for the Mat su Borough.

Morning Newscast – Monday, May 16, 2011

Morning Newscast

Denali

Mt. A Trapper Creek man had the dynamite stored in an old abandoned station wagon on his property. He had called the Alaska Wildlife Trooper on Friday and showed him the wagon containing 550 pounds of ammonium nitrate that had been stored there since the mid-90s. The trooper called the Elmendorf explosive ordinance disposal unit. When the specialists arrived at the scene on mile 3.5 of Petersville Road, they deemed the dynamite unstable and evacuated about 50 homes in a 6,600-foot radius. Troopers, Mat-Su Emergency Services including the Talkeetna Fire Department, the American Red Cross and the Division of Forestry responded and helped with the evacuation. The evacuees were taken to the Trapper Creek Elementary School. At 2 a.m. on Saturday morning, the Elmendorf explosive specialists blew up the station wagon with the dynamite. Two windows in a nearby home blew out, but no other damage was reported. Trooper spokesperson Beth Ipsen said that they are withholding the dynamite owner’s identity and that the case is sill under investigation. So far, no charges have been pressed.

Susitna Council votes to send opinion to Redistricting Board

Local News

Alaska

CIP

community council

elections

government

Mat-Su Borough

Matanuska

redistricting

state

Susitna

talkeetna

Trapper Creek

Valdez

voting
<guid
