Lower Valley residents speak against Redistricting Board plans

Every 10 years, in conjunction with the census, a redistricting board is appointed and begins the task of re-examining legislative districts. The Redistricting Board has been busy holding community meetings and public testimony around the state. Monday afternoon, residents of the lower valley gathered in Palmer to let the Board know how they felt about proposed redistricting plans

Wasilla man recently arraigned on DUI killed in one vehicle rollover near Trapper Creek

Trapper Creek Rescue and ambulance and Talkeetna rescue responded to a motor vehicle rollover near Trapper Creek Tuesday afternoon.

Troopers responding to the accident report that a vehicle, operated by Joseph E. Carroll, 31 of Wasilla, was traveling southbound on the Parks Highway when it left the roadway and rolled multiple times, ejecting Carroll.  Citizens driving by soon after the crash attempted CPR, but Carroll was declared dead at the scene. Earthquake rocks Talkeetna and Trapper Creek late Friday

The Alaska Earthquake Information Center located an earthquake Friday night at 10 pm. centered under Trapper Creek, just 4 miles east of Talkeetna and 40 miles north of Willow. The quake was measured at 3.1 and was at a depth of 10 km.  The event was felt in Trapper Creek and Talkeetna. No reports of damage were received.

Redistricting board introduces various plans for state districts

The Alaska redistricting board is busy posting their proposed maps and scheduling community meetings around the state.  By following the state Constitution, the timeline is fast.  The Board has until May 6th to hold community meetings.  A statewide teleconference will be held that day and the Board then holds public work sessions starting May 16th to draft the final plan for adoption by June 13th. Scenic Byway on Parks Highway to look at draft interpretive plan

In 2009, the Parks Highway, from the Chulitna River bridge to Fairbanks, became a national scenic byway.

Now the state of Alaska is planning a master interpretive plan for the stretch of highway from milepost 132 to Fairbanks. (more…)

Oosik Classic Ski races brings in record amount of participants

It might have been hard to convince Oosik race/tour organizers that 510 people would register for the nordic event on Saturday.  The event squeezed racers into the 25K and 50K tour.  See the link for race results.   Also check back here later for race photos to be added.
