Charlie Allison of Talkeetna is the winner of this year’s Junior Yukon Quest.
17-year-old Allison won the sled dog race that started Saturday in downtown Fairbanks. Mushers raced to Twin Bears Campground on Chena Hot Springs Road and back to Fairbanks on Sunday. Allison finished 12 minutes ahead of Jeff Holt, Jr of North Pole.
Allison also won the Veterinarian’s Choice Award for dog care. Holt was given the sportsmanship award and the Siwash award, which is given to the musher displaying the best trail skills.
Kristen Crain of Talkeetna competed in the race and received the Red Lantern award as the final finisher.
Allison and Crain are both entered in the Junior Iditarod. That race starts on Saturday, February 28th in Wasilla. Nineteen mushers are entered in the race.
