Talkeetna resident Jim Scott joined host Emily LaPorte on Tuesday, December 13, to discuss his role as an engineer for the Moog synthesizer company, the first company that produced a synthesizing instrument that became popular with musicians in the 70’s.
The Moog synthesizer (pronounced: MOHG) was designed by Dr. Robert Moog. This modular voltage-controlled analog synthesizer grew from the invention of the transistor. Unlike, the former vacuum tube-based systems, the transistor allowed for smaller more reliable electronic music systems. After a demonstration of the Moog synthesizer at the Monterey International Pop Festival, it gained the attention of the music industry.
