The U.S. Bureau of Land Management has begun feasibility studies for the [Alaska Long Trail](https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/964af503d8604c50bfaec6243c7b20c0?ref=ktna.org). The trail is being proposed as a National Scenic Trail, and authorization and funding for the trail’s construction need be approved by Congress.

The proposed trail would extend for about 500 miles between Seward and Fairbanks, and would pass through the Susitna Valley as part of its route. The current proposal includes the possibility of a loop that begins in Willow, travels north around Bald Mountain, and runs through Talkeetna.

As part of the feasibility study process, BLM plans to hold public meetings and engage with various stakeholders along the proposed route.
