The Borough’s unused Ferry could be looking for a new home. On May 25th the Mat Su Borough put out a request for proposals regarding the M/V Susitna Ferry, which was converted for civilian use in 2010\. It has never served its intended purpose of shuttling passengers and goods between Port Mackenzie and the Port of Anchorage.According to the Mat Su [Frontiersman](http://www.frontiersman.com/news/borough-seeks-ways-to-ditch-ferry/article%5F800f9270-b831-11e1-8a2e-001a4bcf887a.html?ref=ktna.org), organziations potentially interested in the vessel included oil companies whose helicopter flights to offshore rigs are often hampered by the weather. Borough manager John Moosey said they are looking for someone to cover the cost of the ferry’s operation.

Although the borough didn’t pay any of its own money to receive the boat, $20 million dollars in federal money went into converting it to civilian use and building a terminal building on the Point MacKenzie side of Cook Inlet.
