DESCRIPTION:Talkeetna Recycling and Valley Recycling are hosting electronic waste and miscellaneous plastic collection at the Upper Susitna Community and Senior Center on Saturday\, July 19th\, from 11am until 3pm. \nAccepted electronic items include; radios\, TVs\, other small appliances\, cables\, wires\, and fluorescent bulbs. \n\nDo not bring large appliances\, smoke alarms\, scrap metal\, batteries\, ballasts\, medical equipment\, or anything containing liquids.\n\nAccepted plastics include; #1 plastics such as clamshells\, to-go cups and more\, plastic bottle caps\, and other miscellaneous plastics which are not normally accepted at Talkeetna Recycling. \n\nDo not bring #1 plastic bottles\, #2 plastic\, or #5 plastic. DESCRIPTION:The Alaska Division of Forestry has a burn permit suspension in effect for the Mat-Su Borough. A burn permit suspension means no burning of burn barrels\, debris piles\, or lawn burns. Campfires smaller than 3ft in diameter for the purpose of warming\, cooking\, or signaling are still allowed. Adequate clearance away from combustibles and attendance until cold to the touch are still required for campfires. Any approved fire\, even a small one should be undertaken with extreme caution and vigilance at this time of year. DESCRIPTION:The Talkeetna Public Library’s Summer Reading Program is on Thursdays with the following activities: \n\nStorytime for ages up to 7 begins at 11am with a snack\, stories\, and a craft. The topic this week is aerodynamics and birds with Miss Pamala\, and the craft is painting little birdhouses. Parents are reminded that it will be messy.\nLunch on the Lawn for all ages up to 18 is at 12pm.\nWeekly food backpacks from the Upper Susitna Food Pantry are distributed to children at 12:45pm. Additional backpacks are available at the front counter until Saturday\, or until supplies run out.\nThe Summer Reading Program for all ages begins at 1pm.
