For now, the immediate flood danger has passed. On Thursday morning, the National Weather Service canceled the flood advisory for the Susitna Valley that was originally scheduled to run through Friday morning. The Weather Service says that most rivers have crested, and are likely to slowly recede over the next few days.

Eric Holloway, a meteorologist with the Anchorage office of the National Weather Service, says that current conditions mean that a flood event similar to what hit the valley last fall is unlikely. He says that there is a pattern of nice weather moving in for the next few days into early next week, and river activity should quiet down. Holloway says that any given storm can have an effect on the rivers, but that, for right now, it’s safe to say that the Upper Valley is out of the woods.
