SUMMARY:Winter Speaker Series - Elodea in Alaska - Susitna River Coalition
DESCRIPTION:The Susitna River Coalition hosts a Winter Speaker Series presentation on Elodea (uh-low-dee-uh) in Alaska on Wednesday\, March 25th from 6 to 7pm via Zoom. Cody Jacobson of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources – Division of Agriculture will provide an overview of Elodea biology\, documented locations in Alaska\, and current efforts to control and contain the invasive aquatic plant. Information about potential habitat effects in river systems such as the Susitna drainage will also be discussed. Elodea is a submerged freshwater plant that has been identified in several areas of Alaska and can form dense underwater growth that alters lake and river conditions. Aquatic plant fragments can spread through boats\, floatplanes\, trailers\, and fishing gear. DESCRIPTION:The Susitna River Coalition (or SRC) invites the public to a Wild Salmon Weekend celebration in Talkeetna. \n\nOn Saturday\, August 9\, SRC has arranged for a guided Riverside Nature Hike. Meet at the river area at the end of Main Street at 10am. That evening\, at 6 pm\, at the Denali Education Center\, there is a screening of film The Super Salmon with a community conversation.\nThe Susitna River Coalition and Denali National Park and Preserve are hosting Talkeetna Trail Days on Sunday\, August 10th. The volunteer event will take place from 10am to 2 pm along the Talkeetna riverfront and Chase Trail. Volunteers will meet in front of the Walter Harper Talkeetna Ranger Station at 2241 South B Street. Tools and safety gear will be provided.\nSunday evening from 5 to 8pm there will be a Wild Salmon Celebration featuring food\, community screen printing\, and an oral history booth at the Sheldon Community Arts Center.\n\nMore information for all weekend events is available on SRC’s Facebook Event Page or by contacting margaret@susitnarivercoalition.org. SUMMARY:Talkeetna Community Clean-Up Day
DESCRIPTION:Susitna River Coalition in partnership with the Denali National Park and Preserve is hosting their annual Talkeetna Community Clean-Up Day to help clean-up along Talkeetna’s popular Chase Trail and the riverfront on the Talkeetna River on Saturday\, August 24th\, 10 am – 2 pm. Everyone is welcome to join this fun\, family-oriented activity. \nVolunteers will collect trash along the trail and nearby river. The National Park Service (NPS) will provide garbage bags\, work gloves and safety equipment. \nSign-ups and a safety briefing begin at 10am in front of the Walter Harper Talkeetna Ranger Station located at 22241 S. B Street. Parking is available at the ranger station. \nVolunteers should come prepared for a moderate workday with water\, lunch\, snacks\, clothing layers and rain gear. Everyone should be back at the parking lot by 2 pm. \nEvery volunteer will receive a thank-you gift and each adult who volunteers for the full four hours of the event will receive a voucher for a transit bus ride in the park. \nFor more information on their Facebook Event Page.

DESCRIPTION:Susitna River Coalition is hosting the 2nd Annual Mat-Su Plants for Salmon on Saturday\, June 15th from 10am until 2pm. There will be over 200 native trees and bushes available to plant at the Montana Creek bridge off of Yoder Road in Talkeetna. This event is to protect water quality and improve salmon habitat along Montana Creek at the Yoder Road Bridge. \nIn addition to reestablishing habitat\, all attendees will receive a small white spruce tree to take home. There will be informational booths\, minnow trapping presentations\, free hot dogs\, salmon cornhole and other games. \nAlso hosted by the Mat-Su Borough\, ADFG\, Knik Tribal Council\, Mat-Su Salmon Habitat Partnership\, USFWS\, and Trout Unlimited Alaska.
