On October 23rd, community members gathered at The Hangar in Talkeetna for Denali Nordic Ski Club’s Annual Membership Meeting. Board members shared last year’s successes and updated attendees on the upcoming season.

Although the snow arrived late last year, the club still hosted several clinics and events. One recurring program, Junior Nordic, strengthened trail-finding and skiing skills for nearly 40 kids. The club also hosted waxing clinics and Talkeetna’s Oosik Classic.

This year’s activities again depend on snow timing, but the club still has plenty of plans for the season ahead, including Yoga for Skiing and Full Moon Ski. They also hope to host beginner and intermediate workshops. Additionally, a new snow machine and groomer will join the existing trail maintenance equipment.

The Board announced several updates to the G Loop, now officially named the Wolverine Loop. Vice President Marissa Goerke said quotes for the trail work are out for bid, and they are pursuing grants for additional funding. She also reported that the Matanuska-Susitna Borough is waiving its permitting fees, and the planning commission ranked Wolverine Trail as its second priority for Capital Improvement.

Towards the end of the meeting, club members voted to fill three open board seats.
