The Montana Creek Dog Mushers Association (MCDMA) held its first points-race of the season on Saturday. Six different classes took part, including the first ever skijoring class. A $500 purse was given away and 20 or so local mushers raced in 3-dog, 4-dog, 6-dog and 8-dog and open class races.
First-place finisher in the 4-mile skijoring class was Becky Voris, who squeaked in 1 second ahead of Kris Rasey. Third-place finisher was Kim Wells.
Only 2 people participated in the 3-dog sled-dog race. Michael Stitt finished ahead of Janine Goodman.
Kris Rasey came in first in the 4-dog race. Jennifer Probert was second and Debra Pritchard was third.
Jennifer Probert took first place in the 6-dog race with Bev Stevens a close second.
Christian Taveau grabbed first place in the 8-dog race.
Daryl Hollingsworth took first place in the open class race with Christian Taveau coming in 1 minute behind.
With a total race purse of $500 dollars. Most participants were able to pay for their entrance fee with the amount of the prize money distributed in each category.
Races will be held every Saturday in December near milepost 93 of the George Parks Highway.
The Su Valley Championships will be held January 10 and 11, 2009 and will have an $11,000 purse.
The Association has invited any dog musher or skijorer to participate in the races.
