Last fall, the Discovery Channel made local news by hiring several Talkeetna local talents to assist in filming “Out of the Wild, Surviving Alaska.” The show was a reality type television premiere. Locals were not allowed to speak in public about the filming or what occurred during their time out with crews and cast.
The secret is out though. The show has been airing on Discovery Channel and tonight the five remaining cast members meet up with local resident Billy Fitzgerald to hunt a Grizzly Bear. Fitzgerald said he was really put on the spot originally because he wasn’t supposed to be on TV or be part of the cast. He was hired to be a wilderness guide, which has been his business for the past 25 years. That changed and he became part of the show.
The show’s cast has slowly been leaking their stories to newspapers across the country. Unfortunately some cast members didn’t know where they were and at least one story says that the show was shot deep in Denali National Park. The show was actually shot in the Talkeetna Mountains.
The show airs tonight at 6 pm Alaskan time, 10 pm Eastern Standard Time. KTNA hopes to have more on this story later this week.
