Talkeetna sets record high Tuesday

Talkeetna and the Upper Valley broke the record high temperature yesterday.

A record high of 80 degrees Fahrenheit for May 26th was set at the Talkeetna Airport in 2006, although the all time record high for the month of May was 87 degrees set on the 30th in 2003. The high Tuesday at the Talkeetna Airport was recorded as 81 degrees, breaking the record by one degree.

Todd Foisey, with the National Weather Service, says that this is the end of the hot, dry weather, and cooler weather is on its way, at least temporarily.  He said May will be the first month with ABOVE normal temperatures that Anchorage, and the vicinity, has seen in the last 14 months.

It is believed, but not confirmed, that Talkeetna and Upper Valley was the warmest place in the state yesterday. Fairbanks broke their record high of 69 degrees with a high of 78 degrees. Bettles, St. Paul and other villages have been setting record high temperatures for their region the last few days.

Foisey says the forecast for the remainder of the week is cooler with rain.  However, warmer and drier weather may be back early next week.
