H1N1 comes to the Mat Su Borough

A worker on the North Slope who lives in Wasilla tested positive for the H1N1 flu this past week while working on the slope. 

The report came from the Alaska Department of Health and Social services.  The man is the 13th patient in Alaska with a confirmed case.  He is in his 30s and has not recently traveled out of state. 

Mat Su Borough Emergency Services manager Tom Smayda  is coordinating with the State Public Health and other agencies on preparedness in the Borough.  

 

The World Health Organization raised the alert level to pandemic or level 6 on Wednesday.  The decision to raise the level is a reflection of the spread of the virus and number of countries that now have the virus.  The level of the severity of the virus has not changed.
