Palin picks Sullivan for AG choice

Governor Palin has picked a former assistant Secretary of State in the Bush administration to be Alaska’s new attorney general.

Daniel Sullivan, not related to the new mayor of Anchorage by the same name, is a former resident of the state.  He has not lived in Alaska since 2002, but has family connections here. Sullivan’s resume is filled with military, federal government and foreign policy experience.  He has spent limited time practicing law.

He clerked for the 9th US Circuit Judge Andrew Kleinfeld of Fairbanks and Alaska Supreme Court Justice Warren Matthews.

In April, the legislature rejected Palin’s attorney general choice, Wayne Anthony Ross.  It was the first time in history the selected head of a state agency failed to be confirmed by the Legislature.

The Legislature will vote on the confirmation sometime after the legislative session begins next January.
