The switch to digital TV from analog happens today. The transition began over 20 years ago as engineers set a technological goal of moving broadcast television into the digital age.
The Federal Communications Commission officials are focused on making sure there is as little disruption as possible. They say that with changes as large as this one, they expect some disruption but are ready to help make the switch as smooth as possible. There is a toll free number people can use to call the FCC for assistance if they have trouble.
Consumers can still order coupons to purchase TV converter boxes for their analog televisions after June 12th.
The toll free number for help is 1-888-CALL-FCC.
