Moose Dropping 5K fun run attracts over 200 participants

In an on going series of stories covering Moose Dropping Festival, one of the brighter spots of the festival may be the 5K Fun Run and Walk.

The run is organized to benefit the Talkeetna Historical Society and the Denali Nordic Ski Club.  This year’s event was the largest in recent memory, according to co-organizer Chris Mannix.  229 participants flooded the course.  Karl Swanson, another organizer said the story is, NO mayhem during the fun run.

There was a bit of confusion during the first leg of the race, but other than that, and a bit of traffic interference, all went well, according to Mannix.  Participants ranged from babies in strollers, to women in their 80’s.  Eric Denkewalter participated and commented that he was motivated during the race by a woman who kept passing him as she pushed her baby in a stroller.

Max Grizwald took first place in the men’s division, followed by John Wilson and Galen Johnston in third.  Morgan Dampler took first in the women’s division with Mandy Vincent-Lang and Jess Walsh in second and third respectively.
