Search for Nikiski man continues

Alaska State Troopers continued the search today for 22 year old Jacob Larson of Nikiski.

Larson went missing in the Talkeetna River after jumping from the Alaska Railroad trestle into the river on Sunday afternoon.

The Moose Dropping Festival in Talkeetna Saturday and Sunday brought in thousands of visitors. The almost record-breaking heat and record-breaking attendance may be the cause of some of the activity that took place over the weekend, including young people jumping into the glacially fed Talkeetna River.

Larson jumped with 2 other friends into the glacially-fed river Sunday afternoon after several others had done the same.  Two friends made it safely to shore and they watched Larson drift away down the turbulent river. They called for help and  Mahay’s Riverboat Service, Alaska State Troopers, National Park Service and local EMS responded immediately to the situation.  The search for Larson continued until 10 o’clock Sunday night and resumed Monday morning.

Trooper spokesman Megan Peters said that troopers plan on suspending the search indefinitely if the body is not found tonight.
