The map of Talkeetna that the Talkeetna Chamber of Commerce has been touting for months is here. Almost.
The area map, a project that sprouted from a large monetary donation from businessman Tim Costello, has been in production since this past winter. It has clearly marked streets and area trails. Trisha Costello, Chamber President, said the project had a setback early in the summer but is insistent that it WILL be available by the time the Chamber has their annual Banquet on October 16th. The project is now at the printers.
Costello says she realizes that it will need revising each year since businesses change and new features are added along the Spur Road and in downtown. But now, for the first time, there will be a professional map of the town to give to visitors.
The colorful 11 x 17 map includes downtown, the riverfront, east Talkeetna, area trails and the Spur Road, but doesn’t include all the subdivisions and side roads branching off the Spur Road. Artist Shannon Cartwright donated artwork for the full color map. Costello says it was tested by visitors this summer to see if they could follow the streets and trails.
The maps will be available in most downtown businesses and at some point will be in PDF form on the Chamber website.
