The Susitna Community Council unanimously voted to pass a resolution to ask the Mat-Su Borough to install audio and visual teleconferencing equipment at the Su Valley High School. The purpose would be to transmit borough assembly, school board and other public meetings live. This would allow upper valley residents to participate without having to drive a hundred miles to those meetings as they are usually held in Palmer and in the borough core area.Council member Tami Hamler introduced the resolution, saying that residents of the upper valley are at a disadvantage because of the distance to the borough’s meeting venues. She said the installation of audio and visual teleconferencing equipment would allow residents to view the meetings as they happen and would provide the opportunity to testify. Hamler’s concern is that Susitna valley residents often don’t participate in those meetings due to the distance and consequently their voices are not heard.
Susitna Community Council area resident and former Borough assembly member Tom Kluberton suggested the council approach the other community councils of Talkeetna, Chase and Trapper Creek to pass a similar resolution.
The Susitna Community council board agreed and passed the resolution.
