A job posting on the Mat Su Borough website has caught the eye of some Talkeetna residents.
Position wanted in public works, regular full time…location -Talkeetna…salary $28.30
Chuck Jacobs, long time sewer and water maintenance man is leaving Talkeetna. He applied for, and was awarded the lead operator job in Homer, Alaska. He’ll have 4 people working under him and be working full time in water treatment. He will no longer work with piping and an entire water system. He says it was a good opportunity and a step up. All his children are now grown and out of the house and it will be just him, and his wife, relocating.
Jacobs has been Talkeetna’s maintenance man for 8 years. His job has involved building maintenance of public facilities from Willow to Trapper Creek as well as taking care of Talkeetna’s sewer, well, and piping system.
The Talkeetna job is specialized and according to Jacobs, it’s a difficult certification process. The position requires an Alaska wastewater treatment plant operator certificate at the level 2 range. The person hired must establish a residence within a 30-minute response time of the Talkeetna townsite within 30 days of being hired. Jacobs says he has heard that there were still individuals interested that applied for the job when he applied years ago.
Jacobs leaves in two weeks. The job application closing date is April 14th.
