Troopers identify body

The state medical examiner has identified the body found on Sunday at the mouth of the Susitna River as the remains of Scott Aslakson. The 51-year old man from Houston fell through the ice on the river near Deshka Landing in March.

Boaters found his decomposed body last weekend and called the troopers. They recovered the remains and took them to the state coroner.

Trooper spokeswoman Megan Peters said that the cause of death appears to be drowning. The investigation is closed.

In the past year, a second person had disappeared in the river. Last July, 22-year-old Jacob Larson of Nikiski jumped off the railroad trestle spanning the Talkeetna River near its confluence with the Susitna River. His body has not been found yet.
