Train gates malfunctioned

This morning, the gates at the Spur road train crossing malfunctioned and blocked traffic for more than an hour. One gate was up, the other gate was down and the signal lights were flashing, but no train was in sight.

Alaska Railroad spokeswoman Stephenie Wheeler said a dirty contact in the signal electronics was the culprit of the malfunction. The Wasilla-based maintenance crew was dispatched and the problem was fixed by 9:20 am.
