Troopers looking for stolen plane

Alaska State Troopers are looking for a Piper Super Cub airplane that was stolen from the Big Lake area. Troopers received a report on Sunday afternoon that a Piper Cub, with tail number November-2340-Sierra (N2340S) was taken from the airport sometime in the last 3 weeks.  The plane is a rebuilt 1979 white and red Piper PA-18-150.  The investigation is continuing and troopers are asking anyone who has information or has seen the plane to contact them, or Crime Stoppers at 745-3333.

In an unrelated aviation event, Troopers responded to a plane crash in Hewitt Lake southwest of Talkeetna on Saturday evening.  62 year old George Strother of Wasilla, flipped his amphibious plane in the lake and sustained serious but non life-threatening injuries.  He was transported via LifeMed helicopter to Mat Su Regional.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
