The Mat Su Borough Assembly has narrowed the list of Borough manager candidates down to eleven prospective candidates.
The Assembly held their third meeting on the manager candidates Monday evening. Assembly members will start interviewing candidates via video conferencing on October 11th.
There are two Alaskans and some with Alaskan ties in the candidate line-up. The City Manager of Seward and the Director of Finance for Crowley Petroleum in Wasilla are the two Alaskans on the list. There are township managers, county administrative coordinators and city administrators on the list from those across the country.
Voters in the Mat Su Borough will decide on October 5th if they want a strong mayor or manager form of government. Even if a strong mayor is decided, a manager will still need to be hired, but the job description will change.
Voters will go to the polls for a special election on January 11th to select a new mayor. Mayor Colberg’s last day is coming soon and the Borough will remain mayor-less until the special election in January.
