Charging documents reveal details of stabbing attack

An affidavit filed with the Palmer Court together with charging documents against 41-year old Joey Alan Girves reveal details of a fight outside the Fairview Inn in the early morning hours of September 6 that left a 25-year old Talkeetna man injured with stabbing wounds.According the affidavit written by trooper Richard Chambers, Girves entered the bar with his dog and patrons objected to the perceived abusive treatment of the dog. Outside the bar, a woman offered to take the dog from him and Girves handed over the animal before going back inside the bar. The trooper report goes on to say that Girves came back outside only 30 seconds later and began pushing the woman and punching her in the shoulder. Her boyfriend, in the report identified as Conner Germain, stepped in and a shoving match began between Girves and Germain ensued.

Germain gained the upper hand and managed to get on top of Girves, holding him to the ground. Troopers say that Germain felt something sharp being stuck into his abdomen and chest. Other bar patrons heard the commotion and came outside to separate the two. An open pocket knife was taken from the stabber. The trooper report says that Girves continued to be combative and was subdued by several people until law enforcement officers arrived.

Germain suffered three stab wounds and was taken to Mat-Su Regional. The hospital’s spokeswoman Kerry Aguirre, confirmed that Germain was treated and released.

Girves was charged with two counts of assault and is held in custody. Bail was set at $100,000. A hearing is scheduled for September 17.
