The Talkeetna Community Council has nominated their slate for the board of directors’ election on October 5th. There are FIVE open seats for the seven member board, since Meghann Vaughan gave up her seat after taking a new job. Only 4 people were nominated at the meeting Tuesday evening. Resident Roberta Sheldon called the lack of interest and participation unprecedented and asked if the nomination process could stay open longer to see if anyone else would step up.
The council’s board of directors unanimously voted to extend the nomination time period if the bylaws allow. Otherwise, people can run as a write-in candidate.
The nominees for the upcoming Talkeetna Community Council election are Larry Dearman, Mary Farina, Sharon Montaningno and Deb Wessler. The election is on Tuesday, October 5th.
The council had a long list of items they covered at their meeting including Borough C-I-P applications, revenue sharing, trash and debris at the end of F Street, a report from a visit by code compliance officers, a proposed public fishery information center, request for the Borough to start the Riverfront Management Plan process, scheduled upgrade of B street, a Railroad spraying update and discussion of snowmachine traffic in winter.
