Four people dead in Caswell Lakes area fire

A fire in the Caswell Lakes at milepost 87 early this morning ended in tragedy.  There are four fatalities, but no names have been released at this point until the next of kin can be notified.

A motorist called 911 at around 6 a.m. when they passed by the double wide trailer and saw the fire. Fire personnel from Talkeetna, Caswell, Willow, Houston and Lakes all responded to the fire.

Trooper spokesperson Megan Peters said all fire stations in the vicinity responded to the call. She said no pets appeared to have been injured in the fire.  Talkeetna Fire Chief Ken Farina added that a dog and some chickens were at the site.

Farina said the response to the fire was quick, but trailers tend to burn quickly once ignited.   He said it was very difficult to figure out exactly how many people had been in the fire due to the extent of the burn

The state fire marshal as well as Alaska Bureau of Investigations are inspecting the fire and investigation.
